Titanium and Steel Damascus Axe

£5,800.00

As far as we know, this axe is the only one like it to have ever been made. In late 2024, I started the journey of learning how to fuse titanium with steel in order that I could make art I had dreamt of.

This axe was made with titanium damascus for the body and a steel damascus bit for the edge. The two metals were diffusion bonded with a pure nickel interlayer. The titanium was heat and electro-anodized to bring out its vibrant colours, and the steel bit was etched with ferric chloride to reveal its unique pattern.

The handle is made from American walnut, coated over many days with a traditional linseed oil finish. This axe is the fusion of ancient and modern materials and techniques. Made with curiosity and a lot of trial and error along the way.

Edge length: 100mm (4”)
Total length: 500mm (20”)
Weight: 850g (1lbs 14oz)
